Subject: Kevin – Biggest Chinese Guy I Have Ever Seen
Hello everyone! This has been another great week in Lincoln. I love it here. I’ll just go through some of the highlights.
So on Wednesday we had our mission wide conference in one of the Birmingham chapels, which was amazing. It was so cool to be able to see all of the missionaries together, only the second time that’s happened on my mission. It was a really long day of travels though. We actually had to spend the night in Nottingham on Tuesday because the coach left so early. We stayed with two Tongan Elders, Elder Tupuo and Elder Palu. They are some of the funniest guys I have ever met. It was actually Elder Palu’s birthday, so they had a huge barbecue in their backyard, and some of the other elders in Notts came over as well. It was awesome. Anyway, we had to wake up at 3:30 the next morning to be able to get to Nottingham train station, where the coach picked us up at 5:45. We stopped at Leicester and Coventry along the way to pick up the missionaries serving there, then finally arrived in Birmingham around 9:15. The conference was great. Elder Dyches from the Seventy and Elder Ellen, the managing director of the missionary department, were there and spoke to us. They talked a lot about iPads and how everything is going to work when we get them into the mission, but they also just talked about how we can improve as missionaries and be the best that we can. It was really inspiring, they are two amazing men. So the conference was great, and afterwards we had lunch, then had to travel all the way back, and didn’t get back home in Lincoln until about 9pm, so that was our whole day.
Another highlight has been teaching Kevin, a chinese student. He is probably the biggest Chinese guy I have ever seen. He’s about an inch taller than me, and weighs about 285 pounds. he’s one of the funniest people on the planet, and has really sincere desire to learn more. I think one of the coolest things about him is that he plays American Football for Lincoln University! how crazy is that? He lived in Denver for a year and a half, and fell in love with American Football. So we played with him and the other elders on Saturday, which was so much fun. He came to church for the first time yesterday, and absolutely loved it. I’m excited for his future.
Well I don’t want to bore you too much with random details, especially because I can skype you in 6 days, but honestly life is great. Well I can’t wait to skype, talk to you then, and have a great week!
Love, Elder DeBeikes
